The Gold Coast City Jazz Club features many great talents. It’s easy to forget that these wonderful artists each have a story beyond the few hours they spend entertaining us. This month, Tiffany Rae is in the spotlight for our August 2024, singer of the month.

With a father who was a singer, Tiffany Rae was surrounded by jazz standards from an early age. From show and pop bands at 17, Tiffany’s love for jazz took over at the age of 22, leading to a successful 30-year career in music.

Can you tell us a little about your history in music?

My father would sing jazz standards from Frank Sinatra to Tony Bennet, Bing Crosby and Nat King Cole in nature. I began singing and performing professionally at the age of 17, mainly in show bands and pop cover bands until I became very interested in Jazz at the age of 22. I worked in several bands over the years from trios to 18-piece Big Bands.

What has been the highlight of your career as a musician?

Performing with amazing talented jazz musicians for my Graduation performance at the QLD Conservatorium, coming 2nd in New Faces TV show back in 1993, meeting some of the band members of the Rolling Stones during a long residency on Hayman Island, my show band supporting Little River Band in Mackay in 1990 and performing with some of the most talented, skilful jazz musicians in Australia.

Can you tell us a little about your style and what makes you different?

I sing most jazz styles. Swing tunes and Ballads are my forte. I endeavour to tell the story in a song. In my opinion, that is key to a good performer and vocalist.

What advice do you have for a rookie singer?

Sing In the keys that suit you, be authentic and show respect for the musicians that support you.

What do you like about performing at the GCCJC?

It’s a good atmosphere and a great appreciative audience.

Catch Tiffany Rae at the Gold Coast City Jazz Club on Tuesday 3rd of September from 7pm. For bookings, please phone Keryn on 0419 658 983.
