One of the most colorful arranger-composers in jazz, Carla Bley has been heard in a wide variety of settings through the years, from piano-bass duets with Steve Swallow to combos and large orchestras.
One of the best outlets for her writing was the Very Big Carla Bley Big Band which is featured on the bluesy “Who Will Rescue You” from 1990.

Among the notables in the band at the time were Lew Soloff and Steven Bernstein on trumpets, Andy Sheppard on tenor, and trombonist Gary Valente (who is prominent on this piece).
